26 Jul Buffalo Solar Solutions named “Most Forward-Thinking Contractor” by Solar Power World
Hold everything: WE WON! Solar Power World, the industry’s leading source on all things solar, has named US as its Most Forward-Thinking Contractor of 2018.
Solar Power World annually publishes a Top Solar Contractors list, where it ranks American solar companies according to their influence on the industry in the previous year. We were honored to be recognized on two lists: the Top Solar Contractors in the US and the Top 20 Solar Contractors in New York State.
But, most importantly, in a publication that analyzed more than 400 American solar contractors, we were named winners of the Most Forward-Thinking Contractor Award. According to Solar Power World, this category recognizes companies that seek out new technologies, and use them creatively to teach solar power to their community and streamline the customer experience.
That’s precisely what we did with our 360° Virtual Reality Experience, an idea dreamt up (literally) by our Project Manager Quinn Porzio. Utilizing cutting-edge VR technology, we were able to better convey to our customers what actually happens on the day of an installation, digitally taking viewers both on the roof and inside of their home.
“I’m a visual learner, and I just think learning something visually makes it a lot easier to understand,” Quinn says. “It can be hard to describe a product and how it works to someone who doesn’t use it everyday. Like, as soon as I use the word ‘flashing,’ people might get confused.” Though we didn’t know it at the time, VR was the ideal solution.
We debuted our VR Goggles earlier this year at the 2018 Buffalo Home Show, and since then, have employed them for all of our meetings with potential customers, taking home visits to the next level.
Not to be missed, Buffalo was also identified by the magazine as a “Solar City”, meaning it houses more Top Solar Contractors compared to other American cities. We are in good company with this distinction, from powerhouse solar states like California, Florida, and Texas . . . still operating under the assumption that Buffalo can’t be a hub of solar power?
At Buffalo Solar Solutions, the misconception about solar power being impractical in our region is always on the forefront of our minds, and something we are determined to change. It started with the 360° VR Experience, and will continue with our “Let’s Talk Solar!” educational video series. And that’s not to mention the dozens of plans we have for the future of WNY’s solar education.
We are so grateful to Solar Power World for the honor of being 2018’s Most Forward-Thinking Contractor, and send our congratulations to the other local contractors recognized, all of us working day-in and day-out to better establish solar power in this area.
“Especially in this region of the country, we try to really focus on educating customers,” Quinn told Solar Power World. “We aren’t trying to redesign the solar wheel just . . . helping people better understand solar energy.”
