What to Expect at Your Site Assessment

The first thing you might notice during your site assessment for solar energy with Buffalo Solar Solutions is . . . pride.

From the moment we begin the process, you will sense the pure enthusiasm our solar professionals have about green energy from solar panels, as well as notice the effortless approach we have for ensuring you fall in love with your system for many years to come.

So here’s what we discuss with you during a site assessment.

1. Size & Location.

Some systems will require solar panels to be installed on a few different roof surfaces of a home, while others can fit the necessary solar panels on a solo south-facing roof. There are also the MT Solar pole-mounted solar panel arrays and our custom solar panel pergolas. But it all begins with you and what you have imagined since you first started thinking about solar energy for your home.

2. Site Conditions.

Is this location structurally sound? Is there enough direct sunlight access? For roof mounted arrays, ensuring the roof structure and shingles are in good condition is important, since your system is expected to last at least 30 years. We closely identify your roof’s structure and document it for a structural engineer to evaluate its ability to hold the additional weight of the solar panels.

3. SolarPath Finder.

This terrific tool tells us exactly how much energy your roof space or pole-mount array will produce so we can correctly size your system. It also identifies potential shading issues, helping us to better understand it and provide solutions.

4. Existing Electrical Infrastructure.

It’s very important to document your existing main service panel and electrical infrastructure to ensure all required building and electrical codes are met during installation. This provides safety and assurance that your system will pass an electrical inspection after installation.

5. Plan & Design.

Next, we establish a plan and design for your solar energy system. This includes how the array will look, how the wires will route from the panels to the main service panel, and the location of your SolarEdge inverter. (Learn more about inverters »)

6. A 15-page Permit Package.

All the work during the site assessment complements the 15-page permit package that will be put together specifically for your job, which is needed to pull the necessary permits in your jurisdiction. This will also be used by our installation team to fulfill the job as planned.

Our goal is always the same: leaving you certain of your choice in a highly professional solar energy company.
